Mongolian MP Elected President of IPU Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians

Ulaanbaatar, February 5, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The 179th session of the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is taking place from February 2-18, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland.
During
the session, Member of Parliament Nominchimeg Odsuren was elected President of
the IPU Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians. Members of the
committee are selected based on their expertise and experience in human rights,
and the committee operates with 10 members.
Each
year, parliamentarians in many countries around the world face threats such as
harassment, intimidation, undue pressure, ill-treatment, and even loss of life.
In response, the committee mobilizes the international parliamentary community,
works in cooperation with national authorities, and provides assistance to
protect parliamentarians at risk.
As of today, the committee is handling 886 cases, according to the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Great Khural.
