Extreme cold warning issued across the country

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Agency of Meteorology and Environment Monitoring (NAMEM) has issued extreme cold warning.
Temperature -40 to -45 degrees Celsius expected in areas of western aimags tonight whereas the temperature is expected to fall to -36 to -38 degrees Celsius near Yarmag- Songino in Ulaanbaatar.
Snow will fall in mountainous areas of Khentei on December 28 and in Altai mountains on December 29-30. Snow is not expected in the remaining period of the weather forecast.
In the depression of Uvs lake and Darkhad, in the head of Zavkhan river and in the basins of Ider and Tes rivers, the nighttime temperature will be icy cold between -41 and -46 degrees Celsius and the daytime temperature will be -31 to – 36 degrees Celsius.
The nighttime temperature will be -37 to -42 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas of Khangai, Khuvsgul, Khentei, in Khuren belcher, in the basins of Orkhon-Selenge, in the basins of Kharaa, Yuruu, Tuul, Terelk, Kherlen, Onon, Ulz and Khalkh rivers. Whereas, the daytime temperature will be -25 to -30 degrees Celsius.
In southern parts of gobi region, the nighttime temperature will be -21 to -26, and the daytime temperature will be -14 to -19 degrees Celsius.
In other areas, the nighttime temperature will be -30 to -35, and daytime temperature will be -21 to -26 degrees Celsius.
Extreme cold is expected to ease up a bit in the beginning of January.
