Chess Grandmaster B. Munguntuul Starts off Pune Women's Grand Prix with a Win

Ulaanbaatar, April 16, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The next series of the Women’s Grand Prix of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) kicked off on April 14, 2025, in Pune, the Republic of India.

At the Grand Prix with a prize pool of EUR 80,000, ten of the world’s best female chess players are competing, with Grandmaster from Mongolia Munguntuul Batkhuyag among them. At the 2024-2025 season of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix, 20 chess players are competing, where they have to choose three out of six series rounds. Grandmaster Munguntuul has competed in the Shymkent and Monaco series of the Grand Prix.

The Mongolian Grandmaster will compete against Humpy Koneru, Harika Dronavalli, Deshmukh Divya, and Rameshbabu Vaishali from India, Zhu Jiner from China, Salome Melia from Georgia, Polina Shuvalova from Russia, Alina Kashlinskaya from Poland, and Nurgyul Salimova from Bulgaria. On April 14, 2025, Munguntuul played against Salome Melia, marking her first game of the tournament with a win.

While B. Munguntuul placed 10th at the Shymkent Grand Prix, she became the co-winner of the Monaco Grand Prix but was placed in third place due to a coefficient discrepancy. Currently, she is number nine on the master’s list with 131.67 points. At the Puna Grand Prix, players who are ranked above Munguntuul, including Zhu Jiner, Alina Kashlinskaya, and Humpy Koneru, will compete. So, this Grand Prix is her last tournament to collect some points for the 2024-2025 Season of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix.
