Power Plants Hold 14 Days of Coal Reserves

Ulaanbaatar, December 18, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Energy Choijilsuren Battogtokh presented a report on the implementation of winter preparedness measures at the regular Cabinet session on December 17, 2025.
In connection with the report, the Cabinet instructed Minister Choijilsuren to ensure the reliable operation of energy plants and companies during the peak load period of the 2025–2026 winter. Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Damdinnyam Gongor was tasked with maintaining stable supplies of diesel fuel required by energy plants, companies, and coal mines during the winter peak period, as well as with urgently building up diesel fuel reserves.
During the winter peak load period, efforts are underway to maintain a 15-day safety stock of coal for thermal power plants and heating plants. At present, power plants hold an average of 14 days of coal reserves, amounting to 594,000 tonnes, and 2,897 tonnes of fuel oil.
