Ulaanbaatar, December 23, 2025 /MONTSAME/. A total of 95,000 square meters of sidewalks have been renovated this year at 13 locations along Ulaanbaatar’s main roads, including Peace Avenue, Ikh Toiruu, Baga Toiruu, Ikh Mongol Street, and Chinggis Avenue.

According to the Governor’s Office of the Capital City of Ulaanbaatar, the sidewalks were upgraded with natural stone slabs featuring textured surfaces. In 2026, renovation will continue with the addition of 80,000 square meters of sidewalks, with construction scheduled to begin in the spring. Old paving slabs removed during the process are being reused to improve streets and public spaces in ger areas.

In this context, 1,500 square meters of narrow streets in Khoroos 8, 15, 18, 20, 25, 27, and 43 of Songinokhairkhan District have been landscaped using reclaimed slabs. In addition to sidewalk upgrades, detailed design plans are being developed to construct 78.5 kilometers of bicycle lanes next year.

Furthermore, between 2026 and 2028, the Capital City plans to build 253 kilometers of bicycle lanes across six central districts of Ulaanbaatar.
