Mongolians bring silver and bronze medals from Rio

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ National team of Mongolia took part in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympic Games which was concluded on Sunday. It was the largest Olympic for Mongolia in terms of number of athletes.

            Mongolia competed in the 31st Olympics with 13 judokas, 10 athletes of freestyle wrestling, six boxers, five marathon athletes, three shooters, two weightlifters, one athlete for archery and taekwondo, respectably. In addition, two swimmers competed with wild cards in the races of men's 50 m freestyle and women's 50 m freestyle.

            Mongolia participated with 29 athletes in the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics, respectively. In this Games, D.Sumiya won a silver medal in the -57 kg women’s judo, while D.Otgondalai IMS captured a bronze medal in the men’s -60 kg category. As the team results, Mongolia was ranked shared 67th place with India, among 206 countries. 87 countries won at least one medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
