Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Meets Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology

Ulaanbaatar, November 30, 2023 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai received Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Alexander Alexandrovich Kozlov on November 29, 2023. 

 

At the outset of the Meeting, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene expressed gratitude to Alexander Kozlov, who recently assumed his duty as Head of the Russian Section of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation between Mongolia and the Russian Federation, for his visit to Mongolia. 

 

The Commission held its 25th meeting in October 2023. and discussed pressing issues in the trade and economic cooperation of the two countries. Also, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa met with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin during the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Later, Mongolian Premier Oyun-Erdene met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and the two sides agreed to work on improving the trade balance between the two countries, expanding the operation of Ulaanbaatar Railway JSC, and energy collaboration. 

 

The Prime Minister stressed the significance of the two parties' particular attention to the prompt implementation of specific tasks in the realization of agreements regarding the relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Russia that were reached during these meetings. 

 

Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene and Minister of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov exchanged views on intensifying bilateral cooperation in improving the Mongolia-Russia trade balance, expansion and reform of the Ulaanbaatar Railway and jointly implementing the Eg River Hydropower Plant project, which has been under discussion for many years, stabilizing the supply of oil and petroleum products, deepening the relationship and exchanging experiences between the cities of Ulaanbaatar and Moscow.

 

The two sides noted that close cooperation between Mongolia, Russia, and China is of utmost importance for reforming the Ulaanbaatar Railway and constructing natural gas pipelines under the Belt and Road Initiative and the Mongolia-Russia-China Economic Corridor. 

 

Lately, a stable supply of gasoline and diesel fuels has been disrupted in Mongolia. Due to Mongolia's booming coal export, the country is experiencing a surge in demand for diesel fuel. To mitigate potential disruptions in the future, Premier Oyun-Erdene proposed to establish a joint working group in charge of coordination in emergency situations, emphasizing the necessity of a constant sufficient supply of oil products at stable prices for the long term. The Prime Minister requested the Russian side to create favorable conditions for prompt and stable railway transportation of oil products to be supplied to Mongolia.
