Mining licenses to be granted through tender

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In compliance with an amendment to the Law on Minerals, mining licenses will be granted through tender starting this year.
The amendment, regulating the issuance of mining license, was adopted by the Parliament on November 10, 2017 along with the 2018 State Budget Bill. Prior to the amendment, mining licenses were obtained through applications and tender bids.
According to the Ministry, license issuance will center in provinces. In accordance with the amendment, the corresponding government organization will determine and confirm the coordinates of an area eligible for exploration and mining licenses. In order to confirm, the government organization will forward a written proposal to the provincial Governor’s Office, which will consult with the local Citizens’ Representative Khural and has the right to reject.
