‘The Fountain of Bakhchisarai’ to be staged

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Fountain of Bakhchisarai ballet by renowned Russian composer Boris Asafyev to be performed by the artists of the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet on June 9,10.
Premiere of the ballet in four acts took place at the Mariinsky Theatre, which was known as Kirov Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1934. The ballet choreographed by the first Mongolian ballet master I.M.Khabaeva premiered in Mongolia on June 18, 1956. It was the first full-length professional ballet to be staged in Mongolia.
Khan Girey sits by the fountain at the Bakhchisarai Palace, which was built in the memory of his beloved Maria, mourning the death of his beloved woman. The marble stone of which the fountain was made seemed as if it was crying. The sad story of Girey’s harem favorite Zarema murdering Maria in jealousy and then killed by his order is told through the ballet.
A tribute concert on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai was staged in 2016.
