17 mountaineers lose their lives

All 17 mountaineers went missing on Otgontenger Mountain in Zavkhan province were found dead, reported the National Emergency Management Agency on October 25.
A group of 27 mountaineers led by Master of Mountaineering Sports N.Surenjav climbed Otgontenger Mountain on October 21 and reached the peak by 4pm. Unfortunately, a snowslide struck the mountaineers on their way down, leaving 17 mountaineers, 13 men and 4 women, dead. 10 mountaineers, 3 women and 7 men, made it down the mountain. The National Emergency Management Agency conducted search operations for four days and found the last three bodies on October 25.
Located 100 km east of the provincial center of Zavkhan aimag in western Mongolia, Otgontenger Mountain is elevated at 4,008 meters above sea level, and is snowcapped from 3,752 meters.
