Lu.Altan Tovch that portrays stories of ancient Khaans of Mongolia

A precious Mongolian chronicle handwritten in the 17th century, ‘Altan Tovchi’ (Golden History) is being preserved at the National Library of Mongolia.
Written by Mongolian historian Luvsandanzan in 1651, the chronicle shows History of Mongolia from periods of Burte Chono and Goo Maral to Ligden Khaan. The work is also known as Lu Altan Tovch, with the abbreviation of its author’s name, and is considered a source of the Secret History of the Mongols written in Mongolian script as it contains 233 out of the 282 chapters of the Secret History. Moreover, it includes additional details about Mongolian history between the 12th and the 13th centuries. The chronicle contains history of not only Mongolia but also of China, India, Europe and Islamic states.
In 1926, the first Chief of the Institute for Script and Sutras, Earl Jamyan Onhudyn obtained the 178-page text written by ink and bamboo pen on a paper sized 19x63 cm from Dari Yunhseebu, the Nobleman of Bayantumen khoshuu, Dornod aimag.
The chronicle was inscribed on the National Cultural Heritage list in accordance with the Government Resolution No. 241 in 1995 and on the Asia-Pacific Memory of the World Register in 2010 and the International Memory of the World Register in 2011.
