Mongolian team claims 15th medal at Special Olympics

The 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games is taking place in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates from March 14-21.

Athletes of more than 190 countries are competing in 24 categories at the Special Olympics this year. Mongolian team of 28 athletes has won a total of 15 medals including two gold, six silver and seven bronze so far.

On the second day of the Olympics, Mongolian judokas E.Byambajargal who competed in women’s 57 kg and U.Amarsanaa who competed in men’s -100 kg won bronze medals.

 

Swimmer B.Elberelt grabbed gold and becoming the first Mongolian athlete to win gold at the Special Olympics.Elberelt is competing in the men’s 25, 50 and 100 m individual events. He claimed gold in 25 m breaststroke.

On March 18, judoka E.Bilguun who wrestled in men’s -66 kg event won a silver medal, or 9th medal for Mongolian team.

 

Mongolian athlete Kh.Baljinnyam won gold in women’s 100m run. Previously, she has won bronze in shot put. Kh.Baljinnyam is from Umnugobi and one of seven national athletes from rural area. It is her first international competition.
