Financing and equipment issue of Mongolia-Japan Teaching Hospital to be settled comprehensively

Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yo.Baatarbileg became acquainted with the operations of the Mongolia-Japan Teaching Hospital on March 20.
Minister Yo.Baatarbileg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia Kobayashi Hiroyuki, corresponding department heads of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports (MECSS), the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Finance, and executives of the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) became acquainted with the hospital’s some departments, such as emergency response, surgery, and endoscopy, and held a meeting with doctors and specialists.
The project of the teaching hospital that has become a part of the study, research and training facility of MNUMS was implemented from 2015 to 2019 with non-refundable aid from the Government of Japan.
Despite being first established under the Ministry of Health, the Government transferred the hospital to MECSS at its meeting on March 17, 2020 as it was considered that the teaching hospital has an important role in enhancing the knowledge and skills of MNUMS graduates, and in preparing human resource that meets the health sector policy as well as demand. Thus, the sector minister became acquainted with the situation on-site, and listened to the suggestions of doctors and specialists, introducing the corresponding decisions.
The doctors and specialists highlighted that some equipment is unable to be used due to financial issues despite sufficient number of human resources have been prepared. Furthermore, the hospital has gone into the red, with insufficient medicine, reagent, and medical tools available.
Minister Yo.Baatarbileg said that operational expenditure that is highly necessary for the hospital’s normal operations will be the first issue to be jointly settled by the Government and corresponding ministries. He then noted that MNT 2.3 billion necessary for medical equipment have been included in the state budget.
