Health Minister meets UNFPA RepresentativeВидео
Minister of Health T.Munkhsaikhan met with Kaori Ishikawa, Head of Office for United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s Mongolia Country Office.
At the meeting Ms. Kaori Ishikawa presented measures being taken as part of the agency’s 6th Country Program for Mongolia, including promoting sexual and reproductive health and family planning. She said Mongolia has successfully reduced maternal mortality in the past 20 years and that UNFPA will unwaveringly support the government to help maintain the achievement, while stressing the importance of putting emphasis on prevention of domestic violence, especially gender-based violence, and preventable maternal mortality amid the global pandemic.
Minister T.Munkhsaikhan thanked the UNFPA Mongolia Country Office for providing necessary assistance and closely cooperating with the country during the pandemic and said the improvement of the quality and accessibility of primary medical services is the solution to many issues facing the sector. He informed the UNFPA representative of the ongoing pandemic response measures including paying attention to aimags and soums with border crossings, setting up PCR laboratories and strengthening the capacity of the existing ones, and tightening preventive measures and asked for support with preparing quarantine facilities in aimags and soums with border crossings and strengthening laboratory capacity.
The Health Minister also said he puts special emphasis on strengthening the public health system, enhancing decentralized provision of health services, and improving the quality, and accessibility of services in soums, aimags and districts.
