Total of 262.4 Thousand Tons of Grain Harvested Nationwide

Ulaanbaatar, October 15, 2024 /MONTSAME/. As of October 1, 2024, a total of 262.4 thousand tons of grain, 95.2 thousand tons of potatoes, 121.4 thousand tons of vegetables, and 65.2 thousand tons of cultivated fodder have been harvested nationwide. Additionally, 403.7 thousand tons of hay and 8 thousand tons of silage have been prepared. 


Compared to the same period last year, grain harvest increased by 200.1 thousand tons (4.2 times), vegetable harvest by 19.4 thousand tons (19 percent), and cultivated fodder by 11.3 thousand tons (20.9 percent). However, hay production decreased by 121.3 thousand tons (23.1 percent), potato harvest by 17.4 thousand tons (15.5 percent), and silage by 0.5 thousand tons (5.5 percent).


The 4.2-fold increase in grain production was influenced by the expansion of farming within the framework of the “New Cooperative” National Movement and the early harvest due to anticipated early cold weather, according to the National Statistics Office of Mongolia. 


Additionally, in Orkhon, Darkhan-Uul, Khuvsgul, Bulgan, Tuv, and Selenge aimags, the harvested grain constitutes between 3.3% and 52.4%. In Uvurkhangai, Darkhan-Uul, Khovd, Selenge, and Tuv aimags, the total potato harvest accounts for 3.0% to 38.4%. In Uvs, Darkhan-Uul, Khovd, Tuv, and Selenge aimags, the harvest of vegetables ranges from 2.2% to 50.9%, while in Selenge, Zavkhan, Uvurkhangai, Uvs, and Tuv aimags, between 7.8% and 30.2% of cultivated fodder has been collected.




According to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia, as of October 1, 2024, a total of 286.9 thousand hectares of land have been prepared for next year's crops, an increase of 8.3 thousand hectares (3%) compared to the same period last year.
