Ulaanbaatar, December 25, 2024 /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa paid a State Visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan on June 23-26, 2024. During the State Visit, Mongolia and Uzbekistan agreed to cooperate in supplying wool, cashmere, leather, meat, and meat products from Mongolia to the Uzbek market and other countries in Central Asia through Uzbekistan, as well as in importing fruits, berries, and vegetables from Uzbekistan to Mongolia. In this context, Mongolia committed to exporting 100 thousand live animals.  Following the State Visit, Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia Enkhbayar Jadamba confirmed the Agreement on Exporting Live Sheep from Mongolia to Uzbekistan during his participation in the International High-Level Forum on Landlocked Developing Countries on Food Security and the Sustainable Development Goals held in Uzbekistan. Starting from December 21, 2024, the Agreement has officially come into effect, with 1,440 live sheep having been transported from Mongolia to Uzbekistan on two flights. The Agreement plays a crucial role in Mongolia’s cooperation with Asian countries in the agricultural sector, expanding economic collaboration, and exporting live livestock.  As of 2023, the trade turnover between Mongolia and Uzbekistan stands at USD 10 million. Although the number of goods is limited, it has been steadily increasing since the pandemic, as noted by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry. Mongolia exported processed sheep and lamb skins, sheep and goat offal, and frozen lamb, mutton, and beef valued at USD 4.6 million while importing grapes, fruits, food products, refrigeration and freezing electrical appliances, and trucks from Uzbekistan worth USD 5.4 million.
