Ulaanbaatar, April 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On April 4, 2025, Member of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia and Head of the Standing Committee on Justice Tsogtbaatar Damdin submitted a draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Police Service to Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve.
The proposed draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Police Service includes provisions for the appointment and dismissal of police organization leadership on a fixed-term basis, establishing legal grounds for their removal prior to the completion of their term, if necessary. Furthermore, the draft Law introduces measures to enhance transparency within the operations of the police service and to facilitate the dissemination of public information through legally permitted means, with the aim of preventing crime and violations.
Moreover, it has been emphasized that certain conduct has adversely impacted the regular functioning of the police organization, the performance of officers’ duties, and the overall reputation of the service. For example, instances have been reported in which officers have declined to perform their assigned duties in designated territories as per official orders, instead expressing a preference to work in urban areas. The draft Law proposes that such conduct be formally recognized as a prohibited act for police officers.
