Ulaanbaatar, May 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Japanese Journalist Ide Hirohiko will give a talk on his book "An Appeal for Help to Live" about the history of Japanese soldiers captured during World War II at the Mongolia-Japan Center in Ulaanbaatar.

The Association of Japanese in Mongolia will host the lecture to the public free of charge on June 10, 2025. Additionally, a "May Gathering" Event will take place at the "Sakura" Ger Museum in Memory of Japanese Soldiers, located in the Green Lake Park of Chingeltei District in Ulaanbaatar City, on May 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

At the initiative of a citizen of Mongolia S. Ulziitogtokh, the "Sakura" Ger Museum in Memory of Japanese Soldiers was established in 2022 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan.

Historical records show that following the Liberation War of 1945, there was a considerable demand for labor in Mongolia. At the request of Mongolia, the Soviet Union sent more than 12,300 captured Japanese soldiers to the country. They were employed in Mongolia’s various sectors, including industrial complexes, lime factories, the Sukhbaatar match factory, state farms, the Nalaikh coal mine, and brick factories. By October 1947, a total of 10,705 Japanese prisoners of war were repatriated to their home country.
