Ulaanbaatar, September 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia, Zandanshatar Gombojav, conducted a working visit to Orkhon and Selenge aimags on September 8, 2025, where he met with local farmers and reviewed the progress of this year’s harvest. The Prime Minister visited “Butliin Undarga” LLC, a leading grain producer in the country. The company holds a national record for harvesting an average of 45 to 53 centners per hectare over the past 17 years. This year, the company is reporting yields ranging from 35 to 45 centners per hectare.
Butliin Undarga has constructed and put into operation a fully automated
grain processing complex using concessional loans aimed at supporting food and
agricultural production within the framework of the "Atar-4"
campaign. The new facility includes systems for cleaning, drying, and
storing grain, with a total capacity of 3,500 tons.
With a focus on renewing wheat seeds, the company has successfully
introduced and localized varieties such as Buryatskaya-Ostistaya,
Gonets,
Altaiskaya-70,
and Baikalskaya.
In Orkhon aimag, 13 agricultural enterprises
and 272 households are engaged in crop farming. This year, cultivation was
carried out on a total of 5,156 hectares.
Preliminary harvest projections indicate that
the aimag will harvest 8,958 tons of wheat, 1,457 tons of potatoes, 5,760 tons
of vegetables, 1,076 tons of livestock feed, and 1,393 tons of oil crops. These
yields are expected to fully meet the aimag’s wheat demand, cover half of its
potato needs, and supply 80 percent of its vegetable consumption.
This year’s favorable weather conditions,
including 21.7 millimeters more precipitation than the long-term average, have
positively impacted crop development and overall productivity.
During discussions with the Prime Minister, farmers expressed the need for a state-funded, fully automated cold storage facility with a capacity of 1,000 tons to be built in Orkhon aimag. They also requested that 200,000 additional hectares of land be made available for cultivation, with legal ownership rights granted to farmers.
Prime Minister Zandanshatar instructed the aimag authorities to support increasing the size of cultivated land, in order to enhance the efficiency of agricultural investment and improve food security.
