Ulaanbaatar, September 12, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Mongolian ‘Naran’ Society for Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Health, together with the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center, the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, and ‘Suu’ Joint Stock Company (JSC), organized today the international scientific conference ‘Bone and Muscle Health 2025’ at the ‘Holiday Inn’ Hotel, Ulaanbaatar.

Osteoporosis and bone fractures have been increasing in Mongolia, while health education, research, diagnosis, and treatment opportunities remain relatively limited. The conference was thus convened to introduce international best practices, innovative methods, and new treatment approaches.

The event brought together representatives of major international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the Asia Pacific Consortium on Osteoporosis (APCO), and the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, and Musculoskeletal Diseases, as well as distinguished Mongolian scholars and researchers. They discussed pressing issues related to osteoporosis, fractures, musculoskeletal diseases, nutrition, and the role of physical activity.

Topics presented included ‘Milk and Dairy Products and Bone Health,’ ‘Diabetes and Its Correlation with Bone Fractures,’ ‘Active Movement and Sarcopenia,’ ‘Addressing the Treatment Gap in Osteoporosis,’ ‘Traditional Dairy Consumption and Its Relation to Osteoporosis,’ ‘FRAX-Based Assessment of Fracture Risk in Mongolians Aged 40 and Over,’ ‘Knowledge of Osteoporosis Among Diabetic Patients,’ and ‘Effects of Innovative Preparations on Bone Healing.’

The discussions are expected to help reduce risks of falls and fractures that affect thousands of citizens annually, strengthen preventive measures, and expand Mongolia’s participation in global research and treatment efforts.

Organized for the first time in Mongolia, the ‘Bone and Muscle Health 2025’ international scientific conference was sponsored by ‘Suu’ JSC, which has brought the issue of Mongolian musculoskeletal health to the attention of the international scientific community.

Voices from the Conference

Ph. D. Amarsaihan Dashtseren, Department of Preventive Medicine, School of Public Health, MNUMS: “The international representatives of the International Osteoporosis Foundation, in cooperation with the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) and the country’s first food enterprise, ‘Suu’ JSC, are organizing this conference. Today’s meeting is distinguished by being held under the motto ‘Strong Bones—Strong Ecosystem. Currently, one of the most common diseases worldwide is bone fractures. In Mongolia, people often confuse the concepts of bone fracture and bone fragility. In our country, research on osteoporosis has been very limited. Therefore, the purpose of today’s conference is to discuss what should be done to have strong bones and how this is linked with the food we consume. Currently, we only provide statistics on trauma, but data on osteoporosis remain very scarce. For that reason, there has arisen an urgent need to study the issues leading to bone fractures. It has been reported that about 55 million people in the world suffer fractures due to osteoporosis. In Mongolia as well, the incidence rate has steadily increased since 2020. Most importantly, the question is how to prevent it. That is why we have invited international experts to our country in order to study and learn from global experience and are holding today’s meeting. On this occasion, I would like to express gratitude to ‘Suu’ JSC and ‘Monkondi’ Company for their financial and other support.”

Associate Professor Bilegtsaikhan Tsolmon, MNUMS: “Bone and muscle health itself is a non-communicable disease. Especially regarding osteoporosis and fractures occurring among the elderly, this conference is being organized for international scholars to exchange good practices. Our country adopted the Law on Public Health Services two years ago. The purpose of this conference aligns with the implementation of that law. Furthermore, MNUMS is an institution with a long history of leadership in research, academic studies, and clinical services. The works produced by our researchers have been leading among Mongolian universities. Therefore, the ‘Bone and Muscle Health 2025’ conference holds great significance in making research-based, evidence-based decisions, implementing joint international projects, and expanding cooperation. I would like to thank the team of ‘Suu’ JSC for providing substantial financial support in organizing today’s meeting. The company’s production of mineral- and vitamin-enriched milk contributes to the prevention of osteoporosis.”

G. Peljidmaa, Deputy General Director in charge of Marketing and Sales of ‘Suu’ JSC: “Our participation is to call on people to drink milk every day. The reason is that osteoporosis and muscle loss have become common among Mongolians, as scientists point out. The main preventive measure against this is to obtain calcium and minerals through daily food, nutrition, and milk consumption. However, research shows that the consumption of milk and dairy products by Mongolians is 2-3 times lower than the recommendation of the World Health Organization. Therefore, I would like to urge everyone to drink milk every day and to obtain the nutrition needed to prevent bone and muscle loss through daily food. Our company is implementing the nationwide campaign ‘Milk 365, a program aimed at creating a healthy and strong future for Mongolia with well-developed bones and muscles. For this reason, we have joined today’s conference as a sponsor and partner together with scientists and doctors under a shared goal.”
