Ulaanbaatar, September 19, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia has been elected to the Postal Operations Council of the Universal Postal Union (POC) for the first time.
The UPU was founded in 1874 as one of the first two international organizations to develop, regulate, and improve postal exchanges between countries. As of today, the UPU has evolved into a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN), bringing together 192 member states.
Mongolia became a member of the UPU in 1963. After more than 60 years, the country has now been elected to the Council as a representative of landlocked developing countries, marking a historic achievement that further strengthens Mongolia’s reputation and participation in the international community.
Alongside Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of India, the Republic of Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, the Sultanate of Oman, the Independent State of Samoa, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Kingdom of Thailand have also been elected from the South Asia and Oceania group.
Mongolia will serve as a member of the Postal Operations Council of the Universal Postal Union for the 2026–2029 term.
