Ulaanbaatar, October 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav held a session of the State Emergency Commission on October 12, 2025, in preparation for wet snow and blizzards expected to impact much of the country starting Tuesday.
During the meeting, the PM heard reports on winter preparedness and ongoing measures in the agriculture, energy, and urban sectors and issued specific instructions to ensure readiness.
According to the National Agency Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, wet snow and blizzards are forecast across the northern parts of the western, central, and eastern aimags on October 12; in northern parts of the central and western aimags and parts of the eastern aimags on October 13; across most of the central and western aimags and northern parts of the Gobi aimags on October 14-15; in northern regions on October 17; and in eastern regions on October 18.
Due to poor hay yields in western aimags, supply is being supported from eastern aimags. Of the planned 1.5 million tonnes of natural hay, 1.1 million tonnes have been harvested so far.
As of October 6, a total of 157,100 tonnes of wheat, 81,700 tonnes of potatoes, and 50,800 tonnes of livestock feed have been harvested.
The energy sector’s winter preparedness is 87 percent complete. Central power plants currently hold reserves of 626,900 tonnes of coal and 2,519 tonnes of fuel oil.
In Ulaanbaatar, semi-coked briquettes have begun distribution at 500 retail points. For the 2025–2026 heating season, a total of 306,000 tonnes of semi-coked briquettes will be imported.
Prime Minister Zandanshatar reiterated that enterprises deliberately creating artificial shortages of fuel or briquettes, despite a stable supply, will be investigated and may have their special permits revoked if necessary.
He recalled that the State Emergency Commission had instructed relevant ministries and agencies to ensure winter preparedness at its June 22, 2025, meeting and directed them to report the implementation progress at the upcoming Cabinet meeting next week.
The Prime Minister warned that government officials who intentionally delay or neglect their duties, thereby hindering the implementation of government policies, will be held accountable.
