Ulaanbaatar, October 27, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Central Laboratory of Environment and Metrology under the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring (NAMEM) is now capable of identifying more than 70 types of heavy metals in the air, water, and soil at over 100 sites in Ulaanbaatar and about 300 locations across aimag centers nationwide, thanks to newly installed advanced analytical equipment.
Previously, only eight types of heavy metals specified in the national
standard MNS 5850:2019 “Soil Quality, Permissible Limits in Soil Pollutants,”
could be analyzed.
The
installation and calibration of the new ICP-OES spectrometer and microwave
digesters have been completed, and training sessions for the regional laboratory
specialists in Darkhan-Uul aimag were conducted from October 21 to 24, 2025.

The advanced analytical equipment was procured with state budget funding in accordance with Mongolia’s Law on Soil Protection and Desertification Prevention, the “Vision 2050” long-term development policy, the 2021–2025 National Development Plan of Mongolia, and the Government Action Program for 2024–2028. These legal and policy frameworks emphasize preventing, reducing, and controlling environmental pollution to ensure citizens live in a healthy and safe environment.
