PetroChina Daqing Tamsag assigned to cooperate with local administration

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ A working group led by Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry D.Sumiyabazar saw operations of PetroChina Daqing Tamsag LLC in Dornod aimag on May 5, resolving some problems.
The oil extracter with the largest investment in Mongolia runs operation on 19th field of Toson Uul with oil reserve of 179 million tons and on 21st field of Tamsag area with 127.5 million tons, located near Choibalsan city of Dornod aimag. As of the end of 2017, the company was invested with USD3.16 billion, of which USD616 million was spent on exploration. PetroChina Daqing Tamsag LLC was given a period of 20 years to extract crude oil in Tamsag basin, of which 14 years now remain.

Out of 306 million tons of geological reserve, the company has exploited 34 percent or 113 million tons. The company’s extracting capacity now exceeds over a million tons annually. In 2005-2017, the company has extracted over 5.8 million tons of crude oil, of which crude oil worth USD2.9 billion was exported, and paid USD654 million to the state budget as a product-sharing.
During the Minister's visit to the company, a trilateral meeting was organized with Dornod aimag’s governor and the company’s authority and issues, including employment of the aimag’s youth and making tenders for sub-contract companies open, were touched.
The Minister gave some assignments to authorities of the company, for instance to hire locals as extraction operators, conduct open selection of sub-contractors and transparent procurement activities, rehabilitate nature in accordance with standards, complete road construction, ensure labor safety and operate in compliance with laws and regulations.
In addition, the Minister stressed that the mining company needs to reach mutual understanding with local administration to develop accountable mining.
Mentioning that 75 percent of its 630 Mongolian employees are Dornod locals, the company’s director pledged to hire locals when it employs new workers, resolve the problem regarding road for crude oil transportation, develop collaboration with local administration and operate according to Mongolian laws.
Within the visit, the Minister also held a meeting with Mongolian workers of the company.
