Ulaanbaatar, May 1, 2024 /MONTSAME/. As part of the Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait Railway Project, the second delivery of 4 new locomotives arrived in the Zamiin-Uud port on April 28, 2024.

The locomotives departed from the United States, were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean, reached Tianjin port, and brought to Mongolia, traversing 14220 km. The two prior locomotives, part of the first delivery package, are currently being used for transportation. As part of the project, a total of 16 SD70ACe/LW-4101 locomotives will be delivered from the US manufacturer “Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company.”

The internal combustion locomotives were built with innovative technology solutions and have been used in over 70 countries for 90 years. They are suitable for operating reliably in the Mongolian Gobi nature and weather conditions. They have an AC-DC-AC power transmission system and a 710 model, two-stroke diesel engine capable of generating 4500 horsepower, or 3355 kW. These third-generation internal combustion locomotives meet the TIER2 international environmental standard.
