Mongolia Participating at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Ulaanbaatar, April 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is taking place in Tashkent, the Capital City of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on April 5-9, 2025.


Deputy Speaker of the State Great Khural Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar, Vice-President of the IPU Parliamentarians’ Committee on Human Rights MP Nominchimeg Odsuren, MPs Naranbaatar Nanzad and Punsalmaa Padamdorj, and Secretary General of the State Great Khural Baasandorj Barsuren are attending the Assembly. During the Assembly, which brings together parliaments from 181 countries around the world, all IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians, will convene.


The General Discussion of the Assembly is taking place under the theme “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice,” aiming at providing a platform for delegates to deliberate, exchange views, and intensify parliamentary actions in this area. The Assembly will adopt resolutions on the emergency item and on the subject items taken up by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security and by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development. The Assembly is expected to conclude with the adoption of an outcome document on the overall theme of the General Discussion.


On the first day of the Assembly, representatives of the State Great Khural participated in the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. Established 40 years ago, this Forum aims at bolstering gender equality and women's participation in decision-making and strengthening women parliamentarians' leadership, initiative, and cooperation.


At the Forum, women parliamentarians discussed progress, future trends, and solutions, and noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which set a global goal to eliminate obstacles to gender equality.


Deputy Speaker of the State Great Khural Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar and MPs Naranbaatar and Punsalmaa participated in the Asia-Pacific Group Meeting and exchanged views on parliamentary activities for strengthening regional partnerships and expanding cooperation among member states. During the 149th IPU Assemblyheld in Geneva, Switzerland in 2024, MP Nominchimeg Odsuren was elected as a member of the Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians. MP Nominchimeg is attending the 150th Assembly as the Vice President of the Committee on Human Rights.
