Mongolia to Host “Sustainability Dialogue 2025 - Climate Action: Billions of Trees” Forum

Ulaanbaatar, June 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, the “Sustainability Dialogue 2025 - Climate Action: Billions of Trees” Forum will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on June 5-7, 2025.

The Forum will serve as a platform to align Mongolia’s climate-related policies and measures, attract investment, strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, and support innovative initiatives. Policymakers, scholars, and climate specialists from countries will discuss common challenges and pressing issues arising from environmental and climate change, and will work to accelerate cooperation toward fulfilling the shared commitment under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13.

Synergizing with the “Billions of Trees” National Movement initiated by the President of Mongolia, the Forum will be organized around four core themes covering pressing issues, which are land degradation, desertification, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

Four Sessions will be held during the Forum:

“Climate Financing for Sustainability”

“Technical Cooperation, Social Responsibility, and Expertise Sharing”

“Partnership for Climate Resiliency and Regional Sustainability”

“Climate Action Through Land Restoration and Conservation”

More than 400 participants from 11 countries and over 40 distinguished speakers from the environmental, financial, and technology sectors will participate in the Forum. Opening speeches will be delivered by Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Laureate of the State Supreme Decoration of Mongolia, Order of Chinggis Khaan, eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, and President of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation For a Better Future, as well as Director of the Korea Program at Stanford University’s Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center Prof. Gi-wook Shin, Deputy State Secretary for Hungarian Communities Abroad of the Prime Minister’s Office of Hungary Péter Szilágyi, and Director of the Coordination Office of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification Muralee Thummarukudy.

Keynote Speakers of the Forum will include Deputy Speaker of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh, Environment and Green Development Policy Advisor to President of Mongolia Batkhuu Nyam-Osor, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurken Sharbiyev, Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute Dave H. Kim, and Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia Kairat Sarybay.

The Forum is co-organized by the Office of the President of Mongolia, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Ban Ki-moon Foundation For a Better Future, the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, and the Mongolian Sustainable Finance Association, with support from the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, Oyu Tolgoi LLC, and other organizations from the private sector and civil society.
