Preparations Begin for Ulaanbaatar Flood Risk Reduction Project

Ulaanbaatar, August 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Head of the Governor’s Office of the Capital City, Amgalan Dugarjav, received a delegation led by Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist in the East Asia and Pacific regional team of the World Bank, James Tay, on August 7, 2025.


The meeting was held within the framework of the “Ulaanbaatar Flood Risk Reduction and Sewer Rehabilitation Project - Procurement Plan,” implemented jointly with the Water Department of the World Bank to address flood and water-related issues faced by Ulaanbaatar city.


With a grant of USD 1.3 million from the World Bank, the feasibility study and economic justification for reducing flood risks in Ulaanbaatar city have commenced and are currently 30% complete. The parties exchanged views on further cooperation regarding detailed design and preparation activities of the project.


This flood risk reduction project in the capital city is critically important for protecting public infrastructure from potential risks, preventing economic losses, extending the service life of sewage pipelines, and improving the quality and safety of infrastructure.
