Ulaanbaatar, November 6, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry Enkhbayar Jadamba presented the preliminary results of this year’s harvest at the Cabinet session on November 5, 2025.
Nationwide, a total of 745.1 thousand tonnes of crops
were harvested, including 274.1 thousand tonnes of grains, of
which 252.3
thousand tonnes were wheat, along with 101.9 thousand tonnes of potatoes,
208.6
thousand tonnes of vegetables, 133.3 thousand tonnes of fodder
crops, and 27.2 thousand tonnes of oil crops.
This represents a decrease of 503.3 thousand tonnes, or roughly 40 percent,
compared to last year. Specifically, wheat production dropped by about 35 percent,
potatoes by nearly
23 percent, vegetables by 22 percent, fodder crops by 46 percent,
and oil crops by 49 percent.
Preliminary estimates indicate that domestic
production will meet 62.5 percent of total wheat demand,
76.9
percent of potato demand, and 72.6 percent of vegetable demand.
The decline was attributed to drought and
extreme weather conditions. Between May and July,
agricultural regions experienced low precipitation, with average air
temperatures rising to 37–39.5°C and soil surface
temperatures reaching 65–69.6°C. The maximum soil
temperature exceeded 40°C for seven to ten consecutive days,
while sporadic heavy rain and hail further
impacted crop yields.
Despite the drought, favorable weather in August and September allowed the harvest to begin seven to ten days earlier than usual, which helped improve crop quality. The wheat matured evenly and recorded high gluten content, the minister reported.
Following the presentation, the Cabinet
instructed Minister Enkhbayar to develop and implement a comprehensive plan
to secure strategic reserves of wheat and seed stocks
for grains, potatoes, and fodder crops for 2026, and to mitigate risks
to agricultural production caused by natural disasters. He was also assigned to
review
and decide on extending loan repayment deadlines for
agricultural producers.
