Opening of International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists Held

/MONTSAME/. The State Visit of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to the
Italian Republic is ongoing.
Within the framework of the State
Visit, the President participated in the opening of the International Year of
Rangelands and Pastoralists, initiated by Mongolia, and expressed his pleasure
that in 2022, the United Nations General Assembly approved the initiative to
designate 2026 as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
President Khurelsukh expressed his
confidence that the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists will make
an important contribution to securing food safety, supporting rangeland
management and restoration, and improving the value of pastoralists worldwide.
He further highlighted the interconnected
“Billions of Trees,” “Food Safety,” and “White Gold” national movements and
programs, currently implemented by Mongolia to combat climate change, desertification,
and land degradation, and to improve food supply.
Furthermore, President Khurelsukh invited the active participation of countries in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to be held in Ulaanbaatar in 2026. The opening the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists took place at the Rome headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
