Ulaanbaatar, December 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 6th Asian Beach Games will open on April 22, 2026, in Sanya, the People’s Republic of China.
Returning after a ten-year hiatus, the eight-day Games will feature competitions in 14 sports. A total of more than 3,700 athletes from 45 Asian countries have registered to participate. Mongolia has submitted its entry for more than 100 athletes who will compete in nine sports, including jiu-jitsu, kurash, 3x3 basketball, and beach wrestling.
The previous edition of the Asian Beach Games was held ten years ago in Danang, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Mongolia fielded 39 athletes in eight sports and claimed seven gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals, placing fifth in the overall standings.
The Asian Beach Games were launched by the Olympic Council of Asia in 2007 to promote coastal and beach sports, with the inaugural edition taking place in Bali, Republic of Indonesia, in 2008. Thanks to the outdoor-friendly format, use of temporary venues, and relatively low hosting costs, the Games have expanded rapidly and become attractive to host countries, while also serving as a driver for coastal tourism development. Mongolia first participated in the inaugural Games with 15 athletes in three sports, winning a single medal, gold in beach wrestling by Enkh-Amgalan Tumurkhuu.
