Most urban voters favor MPP

Results of the 2016 elections to the local self-governing bodies have come out. Due to lack of voter’s quorum on the voting day held on October 19, additional polling was organized last Sunday.

Thus, 7282 candidates were elected from 1613 bags (smallest rural administrative unit) of 21 aimags and 152 khoroos (smallest urban administrative unit) of the city. A total of 15 212 candidates were running for elections to the soums’ and districts’ khural of citizens’ representatives (council) including 723 independent candidates.

According to the voting results, the Mongolian People’s Party won 195 seats out of 295 seats in the city, the Democratic Party took 98 seats. 2 independent candidates will represent city residents at the district’s councils. Namely, the MPP gained majority of votes in 6 out of 9 districts and DP - in remaining three districts.
