The 2017 Danshig Naadam – Khuree Tsam religious & cultural festival was held at the central Stadium on August 5-6.
During the opening ceremony, Soyombo banner was exalted, symbolizing the freedom and independence of the Mongolian people. Moreover, monks of the Gandantegchenling Monastery performed Mandala offering, prayer of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar and worshipping of Vajrapani religious rituals.
Khuree Tsam, main element of the Danshig Naadam, was performed successfully on the second day. The Buddhist ritual Tsam dance was introduced to Mongolia around the 18th century. By the order of the fourth Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, the first Tsam was performed in Ikh Khuree in 1811; thus, the Mongolian Tsam dance was later called ‘Ikh Khuree Tsam’.
The wrestling tournament challenged 256 wrestlers, and Lion of State R.Purevdagva won the tournament for the third time, thus earning the title Wide Giant of Danshig. The 2017 Danshig Naadam didn’t include horse racing and archery.
