Mongolian population’s 0.6% have rare blood types
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An international seminar “Rare blood types in Asia” has been held at Bishrelt Hotel of Ulaanbaatar, hosted by the Blood Center of Shanghai and the Mongolia Blood Donor Center. The seminar lays the founding stone of Asian cooperation on establishing rare type blood reserve.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has found that there are more than 100 types of blood in humans. Mongolian population has eight different types of blood, including the rare ones.
While over 70 percent of Mongolia’s population have A and B positive types, 0.6 percent has rare blood type – the Rh negative. People with negative blood type have been observed to come from the western region of Mongolia. The easternmost province of Mongolia – Dornod almost does not have a person that has rare blood type, said N.Erdenebat, the director of Mongolia Blood Donor Center.
