Mongolian sumo wrestler dies after battling with cancer

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ One of the famous Mongolian sumo wrestlers “Tokitenku” A.Khuchitbaatar has died after a fierce battle with lymphoma. Tokitenku was diagnosed with blood cancer during the first basho, bimonthly sumo competition, of 2016 while he was being treated with injury on his ribs.

This was made public by oyokataTokitsukaze. Late A.Khuchitbaatar had been receiving radiation treatments for a year and had lost more than 20 kg.

Tokitenku A.Khuchitbaatar was promoted to the highest division of professional sumo in July of 2002, won 548 bouts in the highest division through 84 competitions. He claimed victories over bimonthly competitions at least once almost in every division he was challenged. Just after his entry to sumo wrestling’s lowest division, Tokitenku won his first three bimonthly competitions, having beaten his rivals in 21 consecutive bouts.

A.Khuchitbaatar had been awarded “gino-sho”, the technique prize, and was promoted to Komusubi rank in March of 2007. This was his highest performance in the professional sumo.

Late A.Khuchitbaatar was a loved and respected wrestler by not only the Mongolians but also by the global sumo fans.
