Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Second Mongolian-Korean Joint Symposium on Gastric Cancer will be held on June 23 in Chinggis Khaan Hotel.

Leading professors from the Korean Gastric Cancer Association and Department of Surgery of the Seoul National University will attend the symposium, sharing the country’s experience on fighting stomach cancer and introducing modern treatment and management of the disease and surgical techniques. The symposium will focus on significance of early detection of stomach cancer, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority disease as well as use of enteral and parenteral nutrition for a patient with cancer in late stage. Moreover, special trainings for doctors of the first and secondary level hospitals are to be conducted.

Mongolia has the second highest incidence of gastric cancer in the world and the highest with its mortality rate. As of 2017, 890 new cases of gastric cancer were found and 600 of them died. Experts stress that death rate tends to increase annually. Therefore, the National Cancer Center (NCC) is taking actions to detect stomach cancer in its early stage and implement a specific program.

Specifically, the NCC intends to continue the program ‘Whole Liver-Mongolia’ with actions against stomach cancer. Thanks to successful realization of the program, Mongolia is detecting liver cancer in its early stage and performing liver transplant surgery at home today.
