Autumn session of Parliament closed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Autumn session of the State Great Khural (Parliament) closed yesterday, January 29 after the new members of the Cabinet took the oath of office to the parliament. Closing the session, Speaker of the Parliament G.Zandanshatar delivered remarks.


In his remarks, the Speaker highlighted that the parliament completed resolving main issues planned to be discussed at the autumn session and the parliamentary standing committees, sub committees and temporary committees convened 114 meetings while the parliament convened 82 plenary meetings. The Parliament adopted 87 laws and 45 resolutions in total.


Underlining that the goal of the session was to intensively trigger legal reform to revive the amendments to the Constitution, the Speaker presented some laws and resolutions approved within it. In particular, a law on Administrative and Territorial Units and Their Governance was revised.


Secondly, the Parliament adopted the revised Law on Courts. Thus, Mongolia stepped up the mission to guarantee citizens’ rights to fair trial, to be free from torture and create a judicial system in which only ethics and the rule of law prevail.


Thirdly, the Parliament approved a five-year general guidelines for the development of Mongolia in 2021-2025. The general guidelines outline 9 goals divided into 47 targets in consistent with the Vision – 2050 – Mongolia’s long-term development policy. 


At fourth, a transparent and open selection was created in appointments by the Parliament. Within it, members of the Human Rights Commission were selected and appointed through open selection for the first time. Also, legal environment has been created to appoint a head of the Independent Authority against Corruption with citizens’ engagement.


At fifth, a new step has been made to become a responsible and digital parliament. This is “law.parliament.mn”, “lawforum.parliament.mn” online system. By doing so, we can implement fundamental principle of democracy that develops laws by consulting with the citizens, the Speaker pointed out in his remarks.
