President meets GCF Executive Director

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. During the World Leaders Summit: 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh met with Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Yannick Glemarec.
At the outset of the meeting, President U.Khurelsukh thanked GCF for its support provided to Mongolia over the past 10 years. Emphasizing that Mongolia pays special attention to climate change, he said that the national movement to plant a billion trees is underway, which will play significant role in tackling the increasing ecosystem degradation and desertification and reducing dust storms.
He stressed that Mongolia will prioritize green development policy in the future and pursue a policy to spend no less than one percent of its GDP on the environment. In this context, the President expressed interest in expanding cooperation with GCF and exchanged views in detail regarding this matter.
Executive Director Yannick Glemarec said that GCF is pleased to work with Mongolia and praised Mongolia for launching specific initiatives to combat climate change and reduce desertification. Moreover, he expressed readiness to implement joint projects and programs to expand cooperation in the future.
Since 2010, Mongolia has been actively cooperating with GCF, which provides financial support and technical and methodological advice to developing countries in implementing the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
