PM Receives MWF’s Request to Cooperate in Mental Health Protection

Ulaanbaatar, August 27, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia, Zandanshatar Gombojav, held a meeting with the leadership of the Mongolian Women’s Federation (MWF) on August 26, 2025.
To open the meeting, PM Zandanshatar expressed his appreciation for MWF’s 100-year legacy. Noting that women comprise 51 percent of the country’s population, or approximately 1.8 million, Premier voiced his support for MWF’s active, socially responsible efforts to protect the rights of girls, women, and families.
PM stated that shortly after the establishment of the Government, a working group was established to combat violence and emphasized that domestic violence, particularly against girls and women, has become increasingly widespread and is causing deep concern across society. In response, a national campaign has been launched under the slogan "No One Should Be Harmed”. A National Committee Against Violence has been established under the Prime Minister’s Office, initiating collaborative efforts with representatives from civil society. The proposal made by MWF to jointly celebrate the “International Day for the Protection of the Rights of the Girl” was accepted, along with a commitment to collaborate on the initiative.
Oyungerel Batnasan, President of MWF, presented the organization’s recent initiatives. This involved the “Cancer-Free Mongolian Woman” target project, which was implemented across all soums of Gobi-Altai, Dornogobi, Khuvsgul, and Dornod aimags. Through this project, 21,580 women underwent screenings for the early detection and diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer. Additionally, 50,000 citizens received training on domestic violence, child protection, and sexual health education for both girls and boys, along with sessions on infectious disease prevention and cultural enrichment activities.
The “Nandin” project for adolescents was introduced as part of broader efforts to combat violence against girls and women, and to protect young people from peer bullying, discrimination, and screen addiction. In addition, under the “Cancer-Free Mongolian Woman’ initiative, preparations are underway to launch early detection screenings, diagnostic services, training sessions, and awareness activities across all soums of Zavkhan aimag, beginning on August 31, 2025.
Following the presentation, members of the Board of Directors of MWF shared their views, consisting of Gantsetseg Dashdondog and Belguun Damdinjamts, Vice President Nandin-Erdene Byambajav, Head of the Dornogobi aimag branch Semjidtuya Batdorj, Head of the Dornod aimag branch Ganganmurun Shirbazar, Leader of the Orkhon aimag branch Ariunaa Tseesuren, Head of the Nalaikh district branch Tsengel Jamsran, Head of the Khan-Uul district branch Otgontsetseg Luvsantseren, and Head of the Uvs aimag branch Erdenesuren Batbaatar. Representatives raised key issues, including improving the business environment, supporting women engaged in small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening the legal framework for family protection, and eliminating disparities in the allocation of variable costs for private kindergartens between urban and rural areas, as well as safeguarding property rights, particularly for women herders.
PM accepted the requests, including expanding the scope of the “Cancer-Free Mongolian Woman” project by employing a team of professional doctors, implementing the “Dem” project to provide psychological counseling and training for women before and after childbirth, and collaborating to safeguard the mental health of society, and seeking to develop and submit specific proposals for implementation.
