Meat Export Increases Amid Harsh Winter
Economy
Ulaanbaatar, January 16, 2024 /MONTSAME/ As winter is getting tougher in Mongolia, meat exporting enterprises are purchasing live animals (sheep) from herders to survive the winter with less loss.
Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry remarked that until February 1, 2024, the campaign of purchasing live animals and exporting sheep prepared by halal slaughter is being organized all over the country. Meat factories are purchasing 500-1000 head of sheep per day according to the schedule.
Meat factories have purchased a total of 30.000 head of sheep
directly from herders and already exported so far.
On January 12, 80 tons of mutton were exported to Iran. An investor in the International Halal Meat Mongol company Parmazi Habibbollah highlighted, “We are exporting high quality and healthy meat prepared according to standards”.
Due to the increase in meat export, meat storage, and meat reserves
have become the next challenge.
According to reports by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry, the whole capacity of cold storage warehouses for meat in Mongolia totals approximately 120,000 tons, and the capacity of deep-freezing warehouses is 7,500 tons. Specifically, the capital city has cold storage facilities (180C) with a total capacity of over 68,000 tons, while Darkhan-Uul aimag has about 7,000 tons, and Bayan-Olgii, Zavkhan, and Sukhbaatar aimags each have cold storage facilities with a total capacity of about 4,000 tons.
In 2023, meat exports
reached a record high of 80.4 thousand tons, as the result of introducing a one-stop service to speed up
government services, allowing
export documents within 8 working hours, canceling all types of meat quotas,
and reviving air transport exports.
