Decisions Made on Intensifying the Buuruljuut Power Plant Project

Ulaanbaatar, May 8, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The payment deadline for value-added tax on imported building materials and equipment for the construction of a 300mW powerplant complementing a coal mine in Buuruljuut soum of Tuv aimag was extended for four years. 


The Minister of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia and the Minister of Energy of Mongolia were tasked with intensifying the construction of the Buuruljuut Powerplant and urgently taking necessary actions within the legal framework.

Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Nyambaatar Khishgee approved the trade of MNT 500 billion in Capital securities in the domestic securities market in 2024 to finance projects and programs included in the attachments of the “Vision 2050,” “New Revival Policy” and the Capital City’s mid-term documents. 


Buuruljuut Powerplant Project is included in the list of projects to be funded by the trade of Capital City securities.

It is essential to meet the growing power demand, consolidate the comfortable living conditions for citizens, implement mega projects in Ulaanbaatar, and meet the base energy consumption.


The construction of a 300mW power plant complementing the Buuruljuut coal mine located 120 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar is underway. The construction of the first phase of a 150 MW power plant is expected to be completed in October this year.
