Councils (SD-Council) have been established since 2018 in ten aimags to boost
local economic development. Through the participation of many stakeholders of
local economic development, the SD Council harnesses the experience knowledge, and innovative strength of the varied participants and thus could
achieve progress in tourism, agriculture, and business development in their
aimags.
The Integrated Mineral Resources Initiative (IMRI) Program
of GIZ financed by German government, the National Development Agency (NDA),
and the Governor Administration Office of Bulgan aimag organized jointly the
annual workshop of SD-Councils at Khutag-Undur soum in Bulgan aimag on
September 18-19, 2020. SD-Councils from Bayankhongor, Bulgan, Dornod, Dundgovi,
Govi-Altai, Orkhon, Khentii, and Umnugovi aimags sent delegations to this
annual meeting.
At the workshop, the SD-Council members participated in
trainings on communication, information of the public, transparency of the
governance, key success factors in regional and provincial tourism strategic
planning, and on how to raise local funding. NDA officials presented the local
development index and the methodology of regional and local development policy
planning in Mongolia. The Public and Private Partnership Committee has been
introduced and modalities of the envisaged merging with SD-Councils have been
discussed. The SD-Council members then spoke about their future activities, the
strengthening of their capacity via the e-learning platform, and strategies of
waste management in their aimags.
