Ulaanbaatar, April 30, 2025 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won-shik is paying an official visit to Mongolia. The Speaker of the National Assembly visited Dr. Lee Tae-joon Memorial Park on April 29, 2025, laid wreaths, and paid tribute.

Dr. Lee Tae-joon was a physician who operated a hospital in Niislel Khuree in 1914 during the period of the Bogd Khanate and became renowned for curing widespread illnesses among the public. In recognition of his devotion to the Mongolian people, the Eighth Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutagt awarded him the First-Class Order of the Vajra and the rank of State Official. Dr. Lee Tae-joon served in the close entourage of the Eighth Bogd until his death at the age of 38.

To honor his memory, the Governments of Mongolia and the Republic of Korea established the “Dr. Lee Tae-joon Memorial Park” in Ulaanbaatar in 2001, and in 2009, with support from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea, a Memorial Museum was opened inside the park.

Speaker Woo Won-shik and the South Korean delegation paid their respects at Dr. Lee’s monument, toured the new Hall of Honor under construction, watched a documentary on the doctor’s life, and were briefed on progress at the site. The distinguished guests also visited the memorial museum.

Afterwards, Speaker Woo Won-shik and the South Korean delegation toured the Choijin Lama Temple Museum, one of Mongolia’s most treasured Buddhist heritage sites, viewing the Maharaja Temple, the Main and Zankhan Temples, the Zuu Temple, and the Yadam Temple. Museum director D. Otgonsuren welcomed the Distinguished Guests and introduced the museum’s unique exhibits. Founded 110 years ago and reconstituted as an independent museum in 2000, the Museum holds more than 6,000 artifacts, 77 of which are listed as “Unique and Priceless Historical and Cultural Treasures of Mongolia.”

The official visit of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia will conclude on April 30, 2025.
