Ulaanbaatar, June 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. For the first time in seven years, the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (MSATOB) will stage the ballets Paquita by Ludwig Minkus and Chopiniana by Frédéric Chopin.
The leading roles in these ballets will be performed by Honored Artist of Mongolia O. Anujin, Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet Principal Dancers Kh. Galtulga, M. Nandintsetseg, Guest Soloist Hong Shao Xue from the Moravian Theater Olomouc, the Czech Republic, as well as Soloists E. Uyanga, B. Anand, and B. Khaliun.
Paquita is a one-act ballet presented in a concert-style format with a sequence of dances that do not depict a specific storyline. It was first staged in Mongolia in 1997.
In contrast, “Chopiniana” is distinguished by its absence of a storyline, presenting a series of ethereal dances by sylphs. The legendary ballerina Marie Taglioni famously brought this role to life, expressing the romantic reverie of a young man through movement alone. The ballet is set to several of Chopin’s piano compositions and was first staged in Mongolia in 1993.
