Ulaanbaatar, August 22, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Munkhbaatar Lkhagva received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Mongolia, Richard Buangan, on August 20, 2025.
To open the meeting, Minister Munkhbaatar Lkhagva briefed Ambassador Richard Buangan on his priority policies in the justice and home affairs sector. The Minister highlighted the launch of the “Legal Reform 2” program, ongoing efforts to evaluate human rights and compliance across existing laws and regulations in Mongolia, as well as initiatives to amend legal frameworks to more effectively safeguard foreign investment under the “Economic Support through Law” program.
Ambassador Richard Buangan remarked, “We are pleased with the legal reforms being prioritized. A more open economy fosters greater growth, and we remain committed to supporting and cooperating in this direction. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has reviewed its foreign aid and investment policies and highly valued the outcomes of the “Child Protection from Human Trafficking” Project implemented under the “Child Protection Compact Partnership” (CPC), in collaboration with the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over the past five years. As a result, the decision was made to continue funding the initiative.
The parties exchanged views on the outcomes of projects and programs implemented in Mongolia’s law enforcement sector with the support of the U.S. Embassy and funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), as well as on other matters of mutual interest.
