Ulaanbaatar, October 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. In accordance with a decision by the National Committee for Air Pollution Reduction, sales of semi-coked briquette fuel have begun at around 400 contracted distribution points across Ulaanbaatar. Additionally, 35,000 tons of new and improved fuel have been stockpiled at 23 storage facilities.

Governor of the Capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Nyambaatar Khishgee and other city officials visited the 31st khoroo of Bayanzurkh District on October 12, 2025, to assess the situation and hear public feedback.

During the visit, the Mayor stated that starting next year, Ulaanbaatar plans to launch domestic production of semi-coked fuel. In partnership with “Erdenes Mongol” LLC, a semi-coke fuel plant will be built based at the Baganuur coal mine. This would enable Mongolia to meet domestic demand using high-quality locally sourced coal instead of importing it, and also to supply not only the capital but also other settled areas of the country.

Residents noted that the new semi-coked briquettes retain heat better than previous types and produce less ash. According to officials, the new fuel contains around 80 percent less carbon monoxide compared to raw coal and 40–45 percent less than the current improved briquettes.
