‘Truth’ Photography Exhibition Shows Historical Facts
Art & Culture
Ulaanbaatar, October 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The “Truth” photography exhibition, showcasing works of photographer M. Lkhagvasuren, who left a significant mark in Mongolian photojournalism by documenting the historic event of a Mongolian citizen’s spaceflight, opened today at the National Museum of Mongolia.
Lkhagvasuren, a prominent figure in Mongolian professional
photojournalism, worked for ‘Unen’ (Truth) newspaper for over 30 years, capturing
the social atmosphere, politics, and everyday life of Mongolia. His
photographs stand as a true witness to Mongolia’s 20th-century history and
serve as historic examples of documentary journalism for future generations. The
“Truth” exhibition presents over 60 photographs that record historical truths and
guide the future.
Photographer
Elbegzaya Lkhagvasuren, son of the late Lkhagvasuren and photojournalist at the
Gamma Agency, said, “With this exhibition, I wanted people to
understand the essence of my father’s documentary photography. In Mongolia,
landscape photography is more developed, but documentary and event photography fall
under a separate category. I personally consider documentary photography the
pinnacle of this art. That’s why I wanted to introduce it to the public. The
exhibition includes works depicting Mongolia’s economy and everyday life from
the 1960s to 1990s, along with previously unpublished photos from his own
personal artistic perspective. Documentary photography tells history and
expresses the truth of its time. Thus, with this exhibition, I hope to help
photography lovers and young photographers understand the value of truthful documentary
photography. We also plan to hold discussions for young photojournalists and
meetings with university students.”
M. Lkhagvasuren was born in 1941 in Tarialan soum of
Khuvsgul aimag. He began his photography career in 1961 and was among the few
highly educated Mongolian photojournalists who authored several books on
photojournalism. He graduated with honors from Lomonosov Moscow State
University.
The exhibition will continue until October 19, 2025.
