Ulaanbaatar, October 14, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Preparations for the 2025–2026 winter season in Ulaanbaatar are 93 percent complete as of October 13, 2025.

A comprehensive winter preparedness plan was launched in January, encompassing 750 projects in various areas, including engineering infrastructure, road maintenance, public services, and construction. Among the key sectors, the heating supply system shows the highest level of readiness at 98 percent, followed by the Housing and Public Utilities Authority at 95.4 percent, electricity supply at 94.7 percent, the Health Department at 94 percent, the Education Department at 88 percent, and the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority at 86 percent. All planned preparations are expected to be completed by October 30.

Head of the Landscaping and Waste Management Department of the Ulaanbaatar City Mayor’s Office G. Bilguun said, “This year, we renewed our fleet with 24 salt and chemical spreaders and 111 specialized road cleaning vehicles. We plan to stockpile 9,518 tons of salt and 9,590 tons of de-icing chemicals. As of today, the salt reserve has been fully secured, while the chemical stockpile has reached 70 percent.”

Across Ulaanbaatar, snow and ice clearance is carried out over 15 million square meters of roads and public spaces by more than 3,000 workers from 48 public service companies using around 1,000 pieces of equipment. Residents and businesses are responsible for clearing snow within 50 meters of their properties.
