Sainshand Wind Park Project launched in Dornogobi aimag

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On October 12, a launch ceremony for a 55MW wind park was held in Dornogobi aimag. Located 460km east of Ulaanbaatar city, the Sainshand Wind Park will be Mongolia's third wind park.
The project is being executed by Sainshand Wind Park LLC, in scope of the State Policy on Energy of Mongolia, according to which the installed capacity of renewable energy is expected to reach 20 percent of total energy mix by year 2023.
Representatives of the Government of Mongolia, Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Germany, France and China in Mongolia, representatives of sizeable foreign companies- project stakeholders, international development banks, contractors, relevant authorities and national counterparts took part in the launching of the project.
The project is sponsored by French energy leader ENGIE, German project developer Ferrostaal, Danish Climate Investment Fund (DCIF) and Mongolian entrepreneur, Radnaabazar Davaanyam, with long-term financing provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The construction of the project started in August this year and completion is projected by the end of 2018.
The 486 hectare project site is located at the distance of 5km from Sainshand and 250km from Zamiin-Uud, both deemed as favorable from infrastructure perspective. This advantageous physical location will indeed provide cost efficiencies in terms of transport and logistics costs. As a result of implementation of this project, foreign direct investment worth USD117.5 million will flow into the country, while significant contribution will be made towards attainment of green economy and achievement of sustainable development objectives.
Once completed, the project will provide power supply to over 100,000 households through its installed capacity of 55MW of electric power generation, which will be based on the use of 25 2.2MW Vestas turbines deemed as most appropriate for the climatic conditions of this land and modern day requirements of wind-based power generation.
Besides this, the clean energy generation will save an estimated 200,000 tons of carbon emission, 2 million cubic meters of clean water and 50mln tons of raw coal consumption.
In overall, the project is expected to deliver substantial environmental and socio-economic benefits, according to testaments of project collaborators and industry specialists.
The Sainshand Wind Park has thus been launched, signaling the start of project construction and significant development in the region.
