First heart transplant performed on animal

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A surgical team of the First State Central Hospital, led by Academician N.Baasanjav performed the first experimental heart transplant on an animal on May 19. The hospital is implementing a program to introduce high technology of organ and cell transplantation and this kind of experimental surgeries will be carried on further.
Physicians of the hospital have achieved success that three patients can get the organ transplant simultaneously from one dead donor. Over the last years, they performed organ transplant surgery from brain-dead donor six times, saving 12 patients with kidney disease and one with liver disease. Heart transplantation program will allow doctors to save four people from one donor brain-dead.
Doctors highlight the importance of people’s proper understanding and acceptance of good deed of organ donors so that many people benefit from the technology benefits.
The most common procedure in heart transplantation is to take a still-functioning heart from a recently deceased organ donor, and implant it into the patient.
